Tubulin is the major constituent of microtubules (Probable). It binds two moles of GTP, one at an exchangeable site on the beta chain and one at a non-exchangeable site on the alpha chain (Probable). Component of the large-diameter neuronal microtubules which contains 15 protofilaments (PubMed:9885292). Plays a role in mechanosensory transduction (touch sensitivity) (PubMed:9885292, PubMed:19652181).
