Tursiops truncatus      Sponge body

※ Sponge body introduction

Sponge bodies are 500-3,000 nm structures which are embedded in an electron dense matrix that is free of ribosomes. Btz, Tral, Cup, eIF4E, Me31B, Yps, Gus, Dcp1/2, Sqd, BicC, Hrb27C, Bru were identified in sponge bodies with Exu-GFP indicating that these structures have a role in post-transcriptional gene regulation (1). Since sponge bodies are typical proteinaceous membrane-less organelles, liquid–liquid phase separation is shown in the formation and disassembly of sponge bodies.
